Our Staff

With just three classrooms, each one of our staff members plays an important role for all the children at the school, not just their own students. Our teachers have varied backgrounds which makes a rich teaching environment. But the one thing they have in common is their love of teaching.

Miss Maria, Preschool Director


Miss Maria started teaching preschool in 1987 while she was attending Loyola Marymount University. She received her teaching credential in 1990 and taught elementary school in San Diego County for 9 ½ years. During this period, she took classes toward her administrative credential from both CSUSM and National University.

Miss Laura, Yellow Room


Miss Laura has taught at Discovery Preschool since 2008, but her teaching career began in 1996 as an elementary school teacher. She has a B.A. in English and her M.ED in Educational Counseling. She received her teaching credential from Whittier College in 1995. Just prior to teaching preschool, she was a stay-at-home mom to daughters Katherine and Amy, both of whom attended Discovery Preschool.In her spare time, she enjoys travel, books and movies. Twice a year she travels with her family to rural New Jersey, where both she and her husband were raised.

Miss Hannah - Red Room


Miss Hannah was born and raised in Los Altos and attended LBCC. She received her certificate in Early Childhood Education in 2007. During college she was a nanny for a child who attended this preschool and she fell in love with the program. She has been teaching preschool since 2010 but no other preschool could compare to Discovery. It has been her dream to work here. In her spare time she enjoys reading, line dancing and is currently planning her wedding.

Miss Sumer, Blue Room

I began my career at Discovery as an Aide and have since been promoted to teacher. I am very dedicated to early childhood and thrilled to have the chance to shape the future of so many preschoolers. I have studied early childhood education at Golden West college. I love learning and am planning to take even more classes as time allows. I am a member of the Los Altos United Church of Christ and work with the youth of the church as well as teaching preschool. I am married and have two children, the youngest, Sydney attends Discovery Preschool. My older son is in elementary school.

Miss Cathie, Red Room


Miss Cathie began working at the preschool in September 2004 and has been working with Miss Hannah for 1 year. "I absolutely love working with this age group! They are so inquisitive about everything. They are like little sponges!"
She has lived in Los Altos her whole life. She went to Tincher, Hill Middle school, And Wilson high School. She also attended LBCC and CSULB.Before she started her family, she worked for LBUSD in both kindergarten and special needs 4th grade.
She has been married to her husband for 27 years and has three children; a son, 27, and two daughters, 23 and 19.

Room 3 - Miss Jasmine

Miss Jasmine joined our staff again in Jan. 2017 after a brief departure from the school. She is a graduate student at CSULB and is pursuing a degree in teaching. She is happily married to a wonderful man who is currently in LAPD academy.

Miss Susan Room 2


Miss Susan comes to us after being a grandparent at our school. She loved helping in the classroom as her two grandsons attended our school. She loved it so much that she went back to school and began working on her early childhood certificate. She is a wonderful addition to room 2.
